Anthony E. Cascino, Jr. is the Founder and President of Cascino & Associates, P.C. Since 2011, he has been the General Counsel of the AVMA-Professional Liability Insurance Trust which provides several insurance programs to the Association’s 100,000 members. In this capacity, he has become experienced in a wide variety of matters affecting the Veterinary profession, especially as it relates to providing necessary insurance coverages which protect the professional and personal wealth of veterinary doctors. Prior to his time with the PLIT, he was President & CEO of Echelon Property & Casualty Insurance Company, and was a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. Before becoming President, he was the Company’s General Counsel, which included responsibility for the Regulatory & Claims Department.
For the past 11 years, Mr. Cascino has concentrated his practice on legal matters related to the evolving practice of Veterinary medicine. This practice includes advising the PLIT Board of Trustees on matters related to corporate governance and structure, veterinary medical malpractice litigation, defending veterinary license defense claims, state and federal regulation, and the proliferation of mergers and acquisitions of veterinary practices. The PLIT is affiliated with the largest professional Association dedicated solely to matters related to its veterinarian members.
He is also an experienced insurance executive and corporate attorney concentrating on providing a broad range of advice to publicly traded and privately held corporate clients and Boards of Directors. As the CEO of a property, casualty and liability insurer he had full P&L responsibility and was the principal contact with the company’s regulators, rating agencies, reinsurers, producers and shareholders. He has provided due diligence for insurance acquisition candidates (including shell insurers), formed and licensed insurers, including captive insurers, in several jurisdictions and negotiated management and managing general agency agreements for insurers of all sizes. He is an approved Captive Manager by the Delaware Department of Insurance.
Prior to his tenure at Echelon P&C, Mr. Cascino was the Vice President, Corporate Legal for Warrior Insurance Group. He was responsible for managing Warrior's Staff Counsel operations consisting of 75 attorneys in six offices, in two states. These attorneys tried 350 cases to verdict annually. In addition, he provided legal advice to the Claims Department, was involved in reinsurance and regulatory matters and arbitrations, the evaluation and settlement of claims/suits, setting reserves and managing litigation.
Mr. Cascino was a founding partner and an Executive Vice President of Tait Advisory Services, a consulting firm providing a wide range of services to the insurance industry. Tait Advisory's representative clients included AIG, Sun America Insurance Company, Vesta Insurance Group, Kemper Insurance Company and the Illinois Insurance Exchange.
Before co-founding Tait Advisory, Mr. Cascino was Executive Vice-President, General Counsel and a member of the Board of Directors of United Financial Group, an insurance holding company, consisting of three insurers, a claims adjustment company and a brokerage firm. He formed and managed United Financial Group's Legal Department, which included captive law firms located in California and Florida, and managed the Claims Department. His background also includes General Counsel experience for two Fortune 500 crude oil refining corporations.
He is a frequent lecturer at seminars related to corporate in-house practice, insurance regulatory issues, the formation and use of captive insurers and the use, retention and direction of outside counsel. He has authored several articles on those subjects. He is a contributing author to the three-volume treatise, "Commercial Damages" published by Matthew Bender in 1983. He was the Co-Vice-Chairman (2004) and Chairman (2005) of the Insurance Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association and served, on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Insurance Exchange, The Chicago Community Loan Fund, the Chicago Archdiocese Seminary College (as its President), United Financial Group, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Advisory Committee on Continuing Legal Education at Illinois Institute of Technology. Mr. Cascino also served as an Adjunct Professor in the MBA Program at the Moser College of Adult and Professional Studies at Benedictine University.
Anthony holds an MBA from Northwestern University, a JD from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a BA from Loyola University. He resides in Glencoe, Illinois.
